The names of Jesus

Jesus Christ

Christ means anointed in Greek. Anointed in Hebrew is mashiach (messiah), the deliverer and the saviour. The messiah has the anointing of God. So Jesus Christ is called both messiah and anointed.

Jesus means saviour, the one who delivers, the deliverer.

Immanuel

"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14, NKJV). Immanuel means God with us.

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

Isaiah prophecied concerning Jesus, he said:

"For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6, NKJV).

The Bright and Morning Star

Jesus said: "I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star." (Revelation 22:16, NKJV)

The good shepherd

And Jesus said that he is the good sheperd who gives life abundantly: "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." (John 10:11, NKJV).

The name by which we are saved

Jesus is the name that saves: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12, NKJV).
